Hi all, just after a bit of advice please. Speedy is coming to the end of her life, she is over 8 years old, arthritic and on metacam twice a day. She has hardly eaten in the last 2 days and is just lying in her snug very peacefully. It's quite clear she hasn't got long, her spirit is diminishing rapidly and I want to make her passing as peaceful and pain free as I can. My question is, should I syringe feed her some mashed pellets tonight or let her be. I just don't want her to go into gut stasis and her end up in pain, thanks in advance. I also don't want a vet to put her to sleep unless I feel she is in pain, which she defo is not at this time.

:hug:it's not easy watching a loved piggy fade away.
I would be guided by her - make up some mushed pellet mix (quite watery - dehydration is quite uncomfortable too) and see if she will take any. Even if she doesn't want food, some water would probably be beneficial.

I hope if it is her time, it is gentle on you both and doesn't have to involve a vet trip 💞

Thanks, I tried to give her water from a spoon but she's very weak now, still peaceful but virtually unconscious, it won't be long now I'm sure. Iv put her in her favourite box on a big pile of hay , she looks like she's asleep. I'm so gonna miss this little lady, she's been my best friend for 8 years, a sassy, naughty but loving, amusing little girl, my heart is breaking . She's also my last remaining piggy, the house will be so empty without her. X

I'm so sorry to hear this.
Once the body starts closing down, she won’t accept any food or water. All you can do is keep her comfortable and keep her company.

I lost one of my 6 year olds at the end of March in similar circumstances. It was hard seeing him like that but now I’m thinking of it as actually quite a nice time (not nice but I think you know what I mean…) that I (and his cage mate who is still with me) was there with him.

Sadly Speedy went over the 🌈 bridge today, she was with her family , surrounded in love and peaceful and passed at home. xx thanks to everyone who helped me yesterday xx

I'm so sorry. It truly is the hardest part of owning a pet. Eight is a great age though, a testament to how much you cared for her and loved her - and she will take that with her.

RIP Speedy, over the Rainbow Bridge pretty girl 🌈❤️
