My baby boy Spaghetti passed suddenly yesterday, only 10 months old.
He had a tumour and nothing could be done.

I am beyond heartbroken 💔

I'm so sorry. It's always devastating to lose a piggy but so hard when they are young.

Sleep tight Spaghetti. Xx

Hi and welcome
BIG HUGS

I am so very sorry that you have lost Spaghetti to what is clearly a genetic time bomb he was born with.

Please try to take consolation that while Spaghetti hasn't had a long life, thanks to you he has had a good one that has been filled with love. Guinea pigs don't have a concept of an average life span; they measure their lives in happy todays in good care. As long as you give them those day by day, you will never fail your pets.

What you can never choose when, what from and under which circumstances the end comes - that is out of control. We only ever have our pets on a loan from above that can be cancelled at any moment. There are sadly lots of way out there short straws in the cosmic lottery of bad luck. I am really sorry that Spaghetti has pulled one one the shortest straws. :(

Please be sad but do not feel bad or like you have missed anything or could have done more; nothing is your fault. Give yourself time to get over the shock and the trauma of such an early unexpected loss and the need to make such a heartbreaking decision which is totally gutting at any age.

Here is what you can do for any companion of Spaghetti's:

We now have got an End of Life and Bereavement Community Support Corner if you feel like you have more questions or if you are stuck in a pernicious mind loop.

Thank you for all your messages, you all made me cry 😢.

I'm at a loss and don't know what to do now. His brother Sharkey doesn't know what has happened, pretty sure he has been looking for him. He is still eating and drinking though which is good.

We need to find him a cage mate but how long do I leave it?
I am worried about him being lonely

Hi

An unexpected death based on devastating news is always much harder to deal with because you cannot brace for it and have both the shock and the loss to deal with at the same time but you have got only so much capacity to process.

As long as Sharkey is still eating and drinking, he will keep up to a month (or even a 6 weeks post-neutering op wait if needed). It's only the ones that give up on life for pining (and that need a medical check in case it is illness) - but those cases are actually pretty rare and usually evolve a long term emotional dependency.

I would recommend that you contact Milhaven Guinea Pig Rescue in Keighley this weekend re. character compatible companionship. Sharkey and you will be in experienced hands there; it's the recommended rescue that I closest to you. ;)
