Hola piggie parents! I am moving into a REALLY small room with not a ton of floor space! :( I’m looking for cage setups for three midwest cages (2 being connected) that will not take up a ton of space, or will be kind of hidden? Would it be inappropriate to put their cages in a walk-in closet, with the door always being open? I’m not 100% happy or comfortable with that but the closet is almost bigger than the room itself! Is it any worse than putting them in a regular room?

If they're in the closet can you walk around the cage? Can you get in at a good angle to clean them out, watch them from the other end of the closet from the door if necessary? Are they going to be able to access any sort of natural light or is it just going to be the light in the closet?

These are questions I'd be asking myself before I put their cages anywhere.

Are you renting or buying? I would cut the door in half, horizontql and you'll be able to keep the top part open, or just take the top half off.you'll need to add 2 more hinges tho probably

Is there anywhere else in the house you can keep them? Or could you keep some in one room and the others in another. I assume they’re separate (pairs or trips) from the number of cages.

If you've got the room to manoeuvre comfortably around the cage, whether to clean them out or just say hello, and they have access to natural light rather than just a lightbulb, I don't see the closet as being a huge issue. It wouldn't be my first choice, but in that respect it's no different to a shed/garage/box room.

So update: I found space outside of the closet, but there is a CAT. i know right, very helpful. i have cage lids that fully close and i would leave the cat outside the room and close the door while out of the house, but when i’m home.. i haven’t figured that out. What do i do if the cat won’t live peacefully with my pigs? There’s no way i could get rid of the cat either. Help?

You need to make very sure that the cage is totally cat proof.
Keeping the bedroom door closed will eventually fail at some point, and you need to be 100% certain that the cat can not get into the cage.

Should i just supervise them together for a few straight hours and see how they get along?

They shouldn’t be interacting with the cat at all. There’s no need. I would just do as advised above and completely cat proof their cage. And only let the cat in if you’ll be in there to supervise.

Okay, so everything is set! The cat doesn’t seem to brother their cages at all and the guineas don’t seem to care. Thank you for all your help!
