Hello everyone,
I have an appointment on Friday (fastest I could get, going to call around other vets to see if I can get earlier), I’m hoping to get some advice until then.

My sow, recently turned 1, has a very swollen bottom. It is swollen enough that it almost looks like her groin is swollen shut. (It has since gone down)

The swollen area isn’t hot to touch. In terms of poop, the vet said to let her sit in a short one in the meantime, she let out a few after I massaged the area. They were a bit of a green tint and a few looked like a bean had been snapped in half.
I can’t tell if she’s straining more than usual since I hadn’t really watched when she pooped to give her privacy 😅
Compared to my others, it looks like she is.

I think she is uncomfortable because she has barbered herself and her cage mate.

While I was away at work a few days ago, I had a family member feed her too many veggies (yellow paprika, broccoli sprout and corn, I had a stern talk with this person now) unsure if this is a reason.

Would appreciate any advice on making her comfortable until the appointment.

Thank you!
This is a picture from when the swelling has slightly gone down. But it is swollen compared to usual.

I am sorry you little lady is having problems, I’m sure someone with more experience will come along soon, we are U.K. based so early morning here. See what the vet has to say, it’s always wise to get a vet check to find out what’s happening
Let us all know how you get on, hoping it can be quickly sorted x

Thank you so much for your response. Unfortunately the other vet said their small animals doctor is on leave so they can’t see her. So I will have no choice to wait until Friday.

On the bright side, she seems to be doing better. Her cage suddenly seemed to be covered in poop, so I’m hoping she was just backed up. I will still be keeping an eye on her, her weight seems to be fine as well.

A vet check is never a bad idea, their genitalia swells when they come into season and lasts about 24 hours. I wonder if she had a particularly strong season? Or if she has something like ovarian cysts causing a stronger hormonal response than normal. Fingers crossed you get some answers at the vet and a clean bill of health for her :)

That actually might be why it seems to have gone down and my neutered boar is going absolutely nuts.
She hadn’t purred at her cage mate so I hadn’t thought it was. I hope it is just a very strong season.

I will keep an eye on her and hopefully the vet will be able to tell!
Thank you so much! 💕
