I was bathing my guinea pig yesterday and found some sore on her body.

I touched around them and she doesnt seem to be bothered by them at all, and she hasn’t been scratching which makes me think it isn’t mites.

Maybe over grooming? She has 2 younger cage mates but I haven’t once seen them fighting or biting her as far as I’m aware they get on great.

I’m going to clean them with a bit of salt water, but wondering if anyone knows what it might be?

Hi

Please see a vet for a hands-on examination.

It is impossible for us to decide whether it is fungal, mange mites or another issue. It doesn't look like a biting wound to me - it's either self-biting because of some major discomfort in the skin (mange mite eggs) or a scab coming off - either fungal exudate crust or a wound scab. The bathing has unfortunately wiped away any possible clues.

Please do not home treat on spec. Fungal and skin parasites need different treatment.
New piggy problems: URI - ringworm - skin parasites
