This may be a ridiculous question, but is it possible for a guinea pig to get a sore throat/lose their voice?!

As some of you may know, my guinea pig Winston has been poorly for a while with kidney stones, while he is doing OK, he hasn't really been making much noise recently.

He still shows a keen interest in food and runs to the bars to come and get his dinner but hasn't been 'shouting' at me for food like Billy does! He tries to make a noise but it sounds like he has a sore throat and his little squeak cuts out half way. Is this possible?!

Some guineas have their voices like this permanently, they let out more of a breathy wheek with very little or no sound!

Guineas can get a sore throat of sorts, it can be caused by an oral infection/oral fungal infection. I believe some bacterial infections (e.g. respiratory infections) can also lead to symptoms in the throat "area".
