Hello everyone! Now, I've posted a few times in regards to my Piggie Bertie and his eye. Once was an accident and he hurt himself and the second time was hay poke.
Now I've come home from work and he seems to be squinting the same eye again but this time there is no swelling and I just notice like a white discharge?...
there is no swelling like last time and no visible hay stuck.. any ideas what this is? Do I need to worry about it? I can't attach videos here for some reason.
Thank you!
Ellie x

White fluid is normal and natural, it's like piggy shampoo. If there's no signs or soreness or injury then it's likely that cleaning fluid.
He just seems to be blinking a bit funny but then again if he has fluid there it's only like us humans having a bit of sleep in our eyes I guess! Thanks for your help. X

Hi

Please take a deep breath. There is no reason to worry for you! :tu:

It looks like a very small irritation, like bit of hay dust, has been washed out with some clear tear fluid, which has dried transparent - after having done exactly the job it is designed for.
PS: Guinea pigs don't blink - that is usually a sign of pain from a persistent irritation (like something stuck under a lid) or from an injury to cornea or eye.

Proper eye cleaning fluid is actually milky white and will dry into milky specks if it spills over and is not reabsorbed by the tear duct.

Blueish/greyish gunk is a sign of an ulcerating infectious eye scratch or hay poke.

Yellow/gree/orange gunk clogging an eye comes from an under- or untreated well developed bacterial URI (upper respiratory tract infection); it's usually only seen in affected newly sold piggies and not in good care.

Just to explain the various things you can see in or around an eye and what they mean.
