I took the cover off my piggy hutch this morning and found my 1 year old female guinea pig just sitting there not moving, we discovered that her eye wouldn't open and we are really worried. She is tilting her head to the side of the sore eye and we don't know what to do.

We gave her her breakfast and she immediately started eating.

someone please help.

What a shock for you. Please take her to a vet today. Sounds like she may have a hay poke or some sort of injury. If it is an eye injury This will need treatment in form of pain relief and antibiotic drops from a vet to prevent / manage infection. With prompt treatment a good recovery is likely. But I must stress, this does need to be seen by a vet Today.

Yes. An urgent vet appointment as she is probably in pain. Its good that she is eating. Has she got a friend? Take them together to the vets to make her feel safe.

Thank you for all the replies, we called a vet and they had an appointment on the spot so we took her. We have some eye drops and pain relief. Some hay got stuck in her eye and made it sore, we have another appointment on Tuesday to check up and lets all hope all is well over bank holiday weekend.

That's great news that you have managed to get her seen at the vets so quickly. Usually once the hay is removed the eye drops start to work quite quickly and they eye will heal well. It's good that you have a check up again after the Bank Holiday weekend to be sure. Well done for being so attentive to her needs.

Great news, swift action is always required in situations like this.
do keep an 'eye out' that your piggy continues to eat and maintains a healthy weight too.

God job:inn:
