hello, today when I gave my piggie bath I noticed just above her bottom hard crusty bit of skin. Is this normal? I haven't noticed before. Is it where they keep sitting down? I am sure it wasn't like that before. I did put her outside everyday for couple of hours even on the wet grass. I hope that's got nothing to do with this. Help! I just need to know that that's fine and she doesn't need to see a vet. :( :(
Her bottom is fine, its only on that bone where they back finishes. Could somebody let me know please. I hope my winnie is ok. thanks.

Yes could be but could also be mites.Has the piggy got any scabs or sores on her back?,is her hair loose and has she been scratching?.

When my pig had mites it was crusty and dandruff scabs on his rump. He was a little red too from scratching. :)

I think is gland problem, it's little bit sticky and hard. She's girl and the gland is very common in boys. (but sometimes girls as well) I gave her bath soaked the bits in the warm water and peeled off. Now it's just bold patch still bit sticky. Will it come back? Do I need to see the vet? or will I need to treat it with Swarfega? I used little bit of washing up liqiud and them I bathed her.
many thanks. :tickedoff:

I had that problem with my last sow - dark and sticky. I used a bit of vaseline on it for a couple of days and then tried to wipe the softened bits away.

Vasaline should not be used as it is a petrochemical by product,I would not use this on my skin let alone gps.Olive oil slightly warmed is good for cleaning the caudal gland. If the secretion is realy stubborn,Swarfega can be used but must be rinsed off very thoroughly.
