Hey! My guinea pig recently grew some type of scar on his upper lip, between his little mouth. It’s black and it looks like he cut himself but not sure what it can be? He’s still acting normal but I’m just worried. It hurts him when I try to touch it he flinches really fast and moves! I don’t want to hurt him:( could he have hurt himself? He free roams all the time! Been having him for quite some time it’s the first time it happens.

Hello. Do you think its dried blood? He could of bumped it. Keep an eye on it and see a vet it it gets worse or swollen and red and hot. There is something called chelitis. That they can get from acidic fruits. But I think that’s usually brownish not black.

It looks like the beginning of Cheilitis which is an infection caused by too much acidic fruit in the diet. It’s also caused when bacteria gets in to little cracks in the lips.

He will need to see a vet for the correct diagnosis and treatment as obviously, I could be wrong

Please have your boy vet checked in a case he is developing cheilitis (lip infection), which can be potentially fatal in advanced stages. It will take a hands-on examination to rule it in or out.
