Hi my guinea pig has something on his eye it’s pink and his behaviour has changed, my vet is on holiday (guinea pig specialist) and the other people at the vet say just to watch it and wait until she’s back, is there anything anyone can recommend

Hi

Please have your boy checked for a potential conjunctivitis or other infection that affects the conjunctiva once your vet is back; what you are seeing is a little of the conjunctiva tissue pushed out; it does however not look inflamed. See your vet clinic promptly if things get worse and if there are further signs of an acute infection. The eye drops used for guinea pigs are the same as for dogs and cats.

It is NOT fatty eye where the lower lid at the back end falls away in some piggies, especially older ones, and exposes the the conjunctiva.

Did you get an answer from your vet about this at all? My pig has the same and the vets are trying to figure out what it is

Hi

Please start your own support thread in our Health/Illness section.

This is an old threat in which the poster has obviously not come back; we have a lot of 'passing trade' with one-off enquiries.
You will get more experienced help by starting your own case thread on here. It will also help to void any confusion of discussing several cases and the risk of you getting the wrong advice from people not realising that you are a different person to the thread starter.

Thank you.
