i recently got 2 ,male Guinea pigs off preloved they are between 1 and 2 yeas old. they seem to have started to fight, they chatter their teeth at each other and were almost standing on their back legs circling each other with their noses together, i have seen them do this once before. there are no marks or cuts on either of them. they are in a hutch above a group of guinea pigs, which have 1 castrated male and 3 female.

do you think they can smell the females and this is why, i have put them in the run on some grass that the female were near yesterday, could this be why.

what should i do, i don't have a spare hutch and would have to buy a new one if i were to separate them.

Any advice greatly appreciated. thanks

i am guessing if the boys are still intact- not fixed then your problem is they can smell the females and it has their hormones going. could you put the 2 boys in another rppm from the girls? so i would move the 2 boys to another room and if they keep trying to show off to one another try bathing them together and washing their hutch so there is no scent in the cage and the boys smell of eachother and see how that goes. good luck and sending hugs from me and the girls in oz. :smitten: :smitten: and welcome to the forums too. :smitten:

Hello

Sorry to hear your boys are brewing up for a fight, check them over in case there are any bites (usually around mouth area or on bottom / back). The smell of girls and Spring in the air could set them off. Have they got lots of space? They are more likely to get on if they've got plenty of room and also so they don't have to fight over resources (food, hidey holes etc) so I'd put two bowls in so they can eat separately if they choose to.

Bathing both could help, so they smell the same again, and reintroduce them somewhere neutral that doesn't smell of other pigs?

Good luck , let us know how they get on

Sophie

hi i am having the exact same problem though my 2 bors really wen tfor it all guns blazing , we seperated them and tho charli was quite happy as he was popcorning all over the place and talking to my other boys cadjer wasnt he was really sad looking , i felt awful even though it was cadjer starting it.
i bathed them last night both laid there loving it never bothered them , i was lucky eough to have been given a 4ft indoor cage so after alot of cleaning and putting new bedding and new toys feeding dishes places for them to hide we put them in their in the lounge .
whilst i dont especially want them in the house all the time at the moment they are more settled they have had a chatter or two but a clap from me has sorted it they were snuggled up in bed this morning so fingers crossed it has sorted it xx

hi thanks for asking, they are not too bad now, they are in their hutch and occasionally are chattering teeth at each other, they not drawn blood or cut each other. when it stops raining i will try them in the run again
