misbehavin

Hi all, I am a new cavy mom. It started with my daughter wanting a piggy, so I finally gave in, and now, of course I am hooked! We brought home Spikey a brindle Appy on Wednesday, the last boar left from a litter. Today we picked up Sparticus, Sparky for short, in hopes of pairing them up. (both boars) Long story short, I have been reading voraciously, learning everything I can find about piggies. Tonight we put them down for floor time separated by a divider. Sparky is very curious, 14 weeks, active and outgoing. Spiky is aloof, nervous and shy, 4+ months. Floor time went well. They are currently in a divided 4x2 cage whilst we build a new 2 story 8x4 (set up to convert in the case we have to separate them.) They were chittering up a storm a few minutes ago, nose to nose through the slotted barrier, and I am so anxious about them getting on.

Any advice? Also I am having some difficulty finding adequate explanations of gp behaviors and sounds, so that I can monitor them with some level of knowledge and competence. Can someone explain these things, sounds etc...popcorning? I just don;t really know how to interpret what I am seeing and hearing. I need to learn more for my piggies! Any help will be deeply appreciated!

Hi and wellcome to the piggie world! popcorning is when they jump a little like a popcorn popping.teeth chattering at each other is agression and chattering at you is that they are scared.the low hmmmm (hard to explain) rumbling sound usually followed by following closely and humping is like there horny noise :o
hope that helps O0

Good luck with bonding your piggies. When you put them together, just be ready to split them incase something goes wrong (but don't use your hands! i've heard of people using their hands to split fighting piggies and they've got nasty bites). If they are making a rumbling sound at eachother then that is a bad sign, but it doesn't mean they wont get along. My two boys rumble at eachother quite a bit but they get along fine. O0 O0 Good luck.
