Oh dear, Trudy has been discovered to have soggy wee pants on! I was a bit suspicious yesterday morning but she was fine for the rest of the day, but I just brought her indoors as the temperature is rising on the hutch side of the house and found all her back end sodden.

I have no piggy-suitable shampoo on hand, but gave her a plain water bum bath (her first ever and she appeared to absolutely *love* it!) and dried her off.

I have got the next appointment with exotics vet Rebecca which is Tuesday morning, so I'm wondering what best to do in the meantime. I can't detect any funny smell to the wee, just normal wee smell. Her lady bits don't look red or swollen. No squeaking when weeing has been heard, and they have been indoors most of the day recently so we should have heard her. I'm wondering whether it could be difficulty cleaning herself due to pain or stiffness, or is UTI still most likely? I have some metacam should I give her a little? And if so how much?

Her young slave is off school sick today so extra eagle eyes will be observing Trudy. The report so far is that she is popcorning under the hay heap in the playpen, so she sounds quite happy considering!

I wouldnt do anything except keep her clean and change her bedding regularly and monitor her weight daily until you see the vet. Our Blodwen was recently diagnosed with "wee pants" which I thought was UTI but the vet did urine tests and thought possible kidney problems which needs a blood test, which we are going to a specialist hospital for just because Blodwen is our perpetually wheezy pneumonia survivor who nobody dare sedate!
If it is kidneys then metacam may make things worse, if it is UTI or failure to clean herself due to age or arthritis then metacan will mask the symptoms the vet most needs to see.
Waiting is hard, we've been waiting with Blodwen wee pants almost a month until the school holidays so we are available to take a whole day or several off work to see the specialist for the expert sedation for honky wheezers and blood test, but if she's happy enough (Blodwen is also happy, just like a wee soaked sponge pig around her bottom) just keep her bottom washed and pop a fresh fleecy pee pad under her twice a day and just take extra care during the heatwave in case it is a kidney issue x

Only thing I would add is that if she is persistently wet, check her bits and back feet for pinkness or soreness from urine scald. In the short term we've used a tiny dab of Sudocreme to protect the skin. Hang in there Trudy!

I should add that the forum doesn't recommend Sudocrem as it can apparently cause problems long term - but we've used it for less than a week before with no trouble. I mentioned it because it's something that a lot of people have leftover from the baby days!

Just wondering if coconut oil would work as well? It's good for cleaning up a dirty matted grease gland area and might help protect the skin.I got a little pot from Holland and Barrett. It's piggy safe anyway😃

Funny Trudy has not repeated the soggy wee pants either yesterday afternoon or this morning. Hmmm. It's like they know there's an appointment booked! I wonder if she just had a really deep sleep on a bit of hay that wasn't draining the wee very well? Continuing to keep a close eye on her, and the Gorgeous Guineas shampoo I ordered at lunch time yesterday was delivered today, so I can clean her better if the soggy pants return 🙂
