Hi everyone,

I’m struggling a bit right now. My girl has had some soft poops lately. 90% of them have been normal, with an odd few being very soft. I have taken her to the vet and the vet suggested a probiotic (I ordered benebac). While I was waiting for that, I stopped all veg for 3 days, no change, so I continued with veg. I tried poop soup two days in a row, and again no change. I got the probiotic and tried that yesterday, just a small pea sized amount, and now almost all her poops today have been very soft. I’m just not sure what else I can do? I believe the probiotic made it worse, as the vet said that this could happen.

I’m off to Mexico tomorrow for 10 days and my family is looking after them for me, but I just won’t be able to relax until I know she’ll be okay.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Did you remove veg and give the poop soup/probiotic at the same time? (It’s just the post reads like it may be that you stopped veg but as it didn’t make a difference you gave veg again and then gave the probiotic ie there was only one measure being taken at a time).

How many days elapsed between reintroducing veg and giving the benebac when poops got worse?
Just trying to establish whether there is a possibility that it was reintroducing veg which made things worse rather than anything to do with the probiotic.

Did you reintroduce veg slowly, as advised, starting with a sprig or two of a herb and then increasing the amount slowly each few days? Or did you just go back to a normal veg diet?

Have you switched to daily weight checks?
If so, has her weight been stable?

How many times in a day did you give the poop soup?
Was the poop you used to soak very fresh and only just produced? (if it has sat for any length of time the good bacteria in it starts to die off).

We don’t use benebac in the UK so I cant comment on its usage etc.

The next step when its continuing and removing veg isn’t helping, can be to get poops tested to see if that shows any cause

What kind of hay and how much does she get? Pigs should have unlimited access to hay. Refreshing the hay pile 2-3 times a day will also excite them into eating more hay. Another thing that may help is an oxbow digestive support cookie. Exercise also helps get the gut active.

I have used Fibreplex for soft poops, alongside reducing or withdrawing veggies.
When Phoebe was in need of Fibreplex it was just 1ml per day.

Hope you can get things sorted out.

Hi everyone,

Thank you for you replies! I’m not too sure what was happening with her but it seemed to just clear up on its own, thankfully😂 I did stop giving her bell peppers because that was the only thing that was slightly different in their salad and it seemed to work!
