Some of you may be aware we have two new additions at the rescue as of yesterday; five year old Star and her daughter, four year old Snowy.

Star has had very soft poops since arrival. Certainly not diarrhoea, but they are really quite soft (and stinky!) They both have very poopy feet so I think this may have been going on for a while. She is fine in herself.

Currently they have Science selective nuggets which they had in their previous home (just enough to cover the bottom of a bowl each) and plenty of Timothy hay (they're great hay eaters!)

I've added some protexin fibre pellets to the diet and removed all veg.

She is being weighed daily, but she's only been here since yesterday so nothing really to compare her weight to from before to see if she's lost some or gained some.

Snowy's poops seem fine.

Is there anything else I can do? How long would you expect to wait to see any improvement? I also have some fibreplex I can use if that would help?

Thanks ❤️

Hi

Hopefully the poos will settle down in a day or two. It could just be some new fresh food or a new treat that the gut microbiome is not prepared for.

If it is veg related, you should see an improvement 24-48 hours after veg has been stopped. Giving her the fibreplex certainly won’t do any harm. It’s obviously difficult with Christmas but if she’s no better by the time vets reopen, I’d have her seen. As an emergency if her poos become watery diarrhoea or she seems off x

Thanks guys, the girls are off to the vets tomorrow anyway for an MOT (the perks of having a family member who works at a vets!) so will mention it whilst we're there.
