Nugget suddenly stopped eating her veggies. She is still eating her hay. She lost a bit of weight and her poo is soft and clumped. It just happened so suddenly. I’m thinking of making poop soup since Lily is a healthy piggy. The earliest I am able to take her to the vet is tomorrow. If not then this weekend. It’s difficult since I have school and I haven’t got my driver’s license. My mom is working. Tomorrow is a public holiday so I’ll try to take her then. Pls give advice. I’m very worried.

This suggests a digestive upset. Please remove all fresh veg from her diet until poops normalise, feeding only hay and one tablespoon of pellets until her poops normalise.

Switch to daily weight checks and step in with syringe feeding if she continues to lose weight (weight loss occurs when their hay intake reduces)

Giving poop soup from her healthy companion is a good idea

Do see a vet if the poops don’t normalise and weight loss continues

Thank you for this. The problem is, that my piggies never really liked pellets to begin with. I’ve heard that a piggy can still live without them. I have some pea flakes though. When i tried to introduce them to it they refused to eat it.

That’s fine - the pellets don’t matter as they are the least important part of the diet. Just ensure she gets plenty of hay and syringe feed a recovery feed if she is losing weight

Pea flakes are fattening so should only be a very occasional treat

Ok thank you so much. It is night in my time so I will do it tomorrow. I’m not sure if I can go to the vet tomorrow so I’ll probably go this weekend. This really helps.

How much weight has she lost?
If if is a considerable amount, then you should not wait to syringe feed

She has lost abt 28g. She doesn’t have to be syringe feeded unless she has lost 50g right?

28g isn’t considered weight loss. That is normal fluctuation. We only say they have lost weight when they lose 50g. Keep an eye on her weight daily and if she continues to lose more then step in with syringe feeding

Checked Nugget’s weight earlier today. She is maintaining a good weight but I didn’t see her moving that much earlier in the morning. The best I can do is check on her after school. My mom booked us an appointment with the vet on Sunday. She doesn’t seem too bad though

When I came back from school, Nugget seemed alright. She was wheeking when I opened the fridge. Earlier this morning I went to their cage and she was eating hay. I am still taking her to the vet to make sure she is alright. Hope it’s something minor

Got home from the vet. They said that it was nothing major. They said that if her poop is still soft an wet, we’ll have to bring her in again. Luckily she is fine. Her poop is almost normal. Can I start giving her veggies again?

Yes you can start giving veg again but so it slowly and only in small amounts to start with - if you give too much too soon, then it can cause soft poops again.
