Hey everyone,
My piggy Percy has had soft mushy poop for a couple of days now. This has happened before however, it went away within a day. Sometimes the poop will even smell quite a bit. Not always though. I’m just wondering what I should do to help him. I’ve read online that completely cutting veg from their diet helps however he’s always squeaking and won’t stop if he’s not fed. He’s also got direct view of the fridge and will always start squeaking when someone opens it. He’s also learnt to listen out for light switches so there’s definitely no hiding away from him. I end up feeling so guilty that the past two days has resulted in me feeding him some veg which probably hasn’t helped his case but I honestly just struggle to say no 😬. He has plenty of hay which he as very easy access to. I have even put in even more hay but still no improvement. I’m open to any tips anyone has.
thanks 😊

Y cHe does need to be kept off of all veg (including grass) until his poops normalise (and then for a further 24 hours afterwards to ensure things have stabilised). I’m afraid you will have to be strong and ignore his pleas for veg. He has hay so he isn’t hungry. When reintroducing veg afterwards, it needs to be done slowly so as to not immediately cause a further issue. It can sometimes be best to start with herbs as the can be milder on the tummy

Okay thanks. How long can he go without veg in his diet or does that not matter?

You keep him off until he is pooing normal for at least 24 hours. As mentioned above you then start with herbs. Someone described them as appetites with fur. You will just have to be strong and not give in to his pleas. If he has hay he is okay.

Is there any veg that you gave him (this time and last) that you think may have led to the soft poos? Anything new you gave him to eat or more of anything than usual? Has he been eating grass? Good luck.

Veg is merely a snack. He won’t go hungry because hay is always the main part of the diet, but the veg needs to be stopped to stabilise the gut again. It could take several days but piggy won’t come to any harm through not having veg

I don’t think there anything that I’ve fed him this week that’s been more of something than usual or new. Percy has the same diet as my other two piggy’s but their poops are normal. He has had grass but not much of it as my garden has artificial grass so I’ve had to grow some in a pot. Thanks 😊
