Bullseye

I have 2 girlie pigs and one seems to mount the other
is this normal play?
sniffing round too

Poor phoebe does not seem so keen

yes its normal, its just dominant behaviour, and its rare that any pig likes being on the recieving end of it,they usually tolerate this behaviour so dont worry to much x
are you absolutly sure they are both girls?,because as i say girls have this behaviour too but just wanted to check

well i know how to check after receiving advise from here, i am just putting off as i am not a confident handler yet. (among other excuses)
i have my suspicions one is a boy

thing is - if its a he then the boss lady may make me take him back to the shop and its mad but i have already bonded with him/her

and if its a him, then chances are he has already done what comes natural

so i am prepared for whatever happens i guess

longer i put off confirming the sex the grater the chance i can keep him

i know - it is a bit sneeky

yeah its not a great idea for the sow either,as much as your attached if you check and possibly seperate now there is still a chance she wont be pregnant, truthfully i wouldnt take the risk just because of being attached, you could find out the sexes and then talk about what you could do,neutering him/rehoming/seperating,its all in the best interest of your piggies and the over flowing rescues x
remember if it is a boy and you cant keep him there is always the idea of taking him to rescue where he will get a good home unlike a pet shop x

Yes, it is dominant behaviour, but it can also mean that the female that is doing the mounting is in heat. It's perfectly normal, so don't worry about it.

I am learning all the time and they were sold to me as female by a confident guinea pig keeper so i have some trust in that being correct
i have heard horror stories about people being taken advantage of and getting wrong sexes and i am a worrier by nature

and my piggie loves me, she comes when called and loves a tickle behind the ears and offers herself for picking up

then wriggles to be down again

has to be a girlie - she is so fickle

none of that behaviour means that she is in fact female,it is plain and simply irresponsible to suspect she might be male and not to check and also continuing leaving the piggy in with the definate female is likely to result in another un needed pregnancy if she does turn out to be a boar xx
by the way all of my boars have that behaviour and they are defnantly boys, not to say yours is but behaviour can apply to both sexes

it is best to double cheak the sexes as if you do have a male and female and the females gets pregnant, there can be problems and worst case is that you could lose mum and babies, please please double cheack the sexes.

Yes females can mount another female when in heat but it shouldnt really last more than a day, and yes its very common for males to mount as it is a domanace thing.

How old are the pigs?
