Junior Guinea Pig
It really feels like I can only celebrate Pumpkin doing better for like a day before it crashes back down again.
She was on 0.6 mL dog meloxicam twice a day, started doing bad again, and we increased it to 0.75 mL twice a day. She perked up a lot with the higher dose and when the vet reevaluated her pain Friday it was close to none.
Today, she’s wobbling all over the place, falling over, very stiff, and basically right back to how she was before she started meloxicam.
I contacted my vet about this and asked her about gabapentin or another painkiller that I can use on days like these where the meloxicam doesn’t work.
But I’m frustrated because it feels like the arthritis is getting worse at 100x speed. I thought I’d have to change her dose every few months at minimum, not every few days.
I don’t know if this is normal for guinea pig arthritis; to have such high highs and low lows. Or if she’s just deteriorating fast. I hope that it’s just a matter of trial and error to find the best medicine combination for her rather than it’s just too bad and is getting worse fast.
I really hope that a second painkiller can bring her relief on these bad days. I’d really like to start having some more good days.
If anyone would like to share their own experiences with this I would very much appreciate it, otherwise any sort of reply is welcome.
Just feeling defeated.
