I am so excited we are almost half way through construction of the new piggy shed.

This will improve the facilities for the piggies whilst they are in rescue, and also make cleaning easier for me. We have raised a lot of funds to make this possible.

We are constructing a 10 foot x 10 foot shed that will be fully insulated and will have heating, triple glazed windows, lighting and hot and cold water running to it.

At the moment the shell is up, just need to get the roof on, and then can start working on the inside.

As it is going to be warm and protected in there, I plan to use C and C cages around the edge of the shed. They will be 2 panels wide (28 inch). It then means that if I have larger groups of guineas, I can adjust the size of the C and C cages to accommodate, using dividers, or if I have a lot of single guineas I can adjust the cages again to make them a bit smaller. If that makes sense, as the cage will run around the whole shed, in a * shape. And be a total length of 30 feet, which could divide into 7 x 4 foot cages.

There will be 3 levels. And my piggies will live on the bottom level.

Before we construct the inside, I would welcome any suggestions, as I want to get it right. But fingers crossed by the new year, all the piggies will be moving into luxuriousness accommodation!

Layla,
sounds great.
just make sure you can easily reach the back of each cage for cleaning, and to catch those naughty boys who don't like being picked up.
You certainly deserve a magnificent piggy shed.
Hope you, hubby, dog and all the piggies have a great chrsitmas

That sounds great! Make sure that the levels are spaced well apart, so you can easily get at the back of them for cleaning out, especially the lowest one!

Good points - I think I need to have a test to see I can easily get to the back of them. Wondering about making the front panels in some way that they can be moved for easier cleaning.

We have wired two grids together with cable ties at the front, so they fold outwards from a wooden post.

However, I would recommend that you leave at least 500mm (1 1/2 ft) in height for easy cleaning.

Yes that should work, I might just need a step to reach the top level, but don't want to strain my back struggling to clean out!

Oh wow that's so fab! :(|) No wonder you're excited!! It will be so nice for the piggies, they'll have LOADS of room and they'll be warm cos of the heating. And it'll be asy for their water botttles to be filled up if you have hot and cold water running through! I'm so happy for you and the Guinea Pigs! :<>

Thanks everyone, I figured the Raytek would be the best way to go, but wasnt real sure about other manufacturers. Thanks again.

It sounds absolutely wonderful! However, do you have another area for quarantining new cavies?

Thanks. I was thinking about that over the weekend. May end up with them going into piggy shed once quarantined, as wouldn't want to risk possible infection of all the rest. Unless anyone has any alternative ideas?
