Hi people, I've asked about this before but nobody mentioned anything and i didnt think it was a big deal so i havn't asked again but lately i've noticed my piggies sneezing quite a bit, most of the time they're not propper sneezes but just like they're trying to clear their noses and they often rub their noses with their little paws! I don't use woodshavings etc, the piggies live on fleece and a little bit of vetbed so i was just wondering if anyone knew what this could be? Their noses are completely dry, eyes, mouths, ears, skin, fur, weeing, eating and drinking are all normal, neither appear to have anything else wrong apart from this, anyone got any ideas? Could they be allergic to cat fur? It's not overly around the house but we do have a cat? any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Emma x

Hhmm that could be it, they do seem to do it an awful lot though? I may be being paranoid. How is little lucky doing? x

A lot more than that, but they're not like real sneezes, they do real ones about 3 times a day i'd say, these are like they're trying to get something out of their noses? but their noses are dry, its strange!

fleece and vetbed, i thought it may have been the bedding but i doubt it i've never heard of people having problems with fleece and cerainly not vetbed in terms of sneezing, I'm confused! Could they have colds? or would their noses be runny? x

Do you wash the bedding with soap powder? Just a thought - Persil makes me cough, so if the bedding smells of soap powder (some of it can be quite strong) maybe that is making their noses itch?

oo thats a good point, i never thought of that, i do use soap powder i think! Can't think which one i used last now! What should i use to wash it because they're due a change tomorrow? x

ok il go and have a look in asda tomorrow before i wash the bedding, if it doesn't improve il take them the vets, thanks for the advice! but i wont bame you if thats not the problem lol dont worry :) x

ok i'm reading about sneezing in other posts and I'm worried :( could this be pneumonia? or something serious? I'm sorry if I'm being paranoid i just want them to be healthy, or could it be a cold or something similar? please help anyone :( x

If your pigs are eating and active and normal except for the sneezing,do not worry too much.If they had pneumonia they would be off their food, hunched up and obviously ill. They would also have breathing problems.

This sounds like allergy, soap powders have already been mentioned,.Do you use any sprays or plug in air freshereners near the piggies. There aare a lot of common household products that could cause a allergic reaction.

You menntion that the piggies sometimes rub their noses when sneezing, they may have dust or tiny hayseed stuck in the nose. This is a common cause of piggy sneezes and the nostril will clear itself.

Ok thank you for the reply! I get a bit panicky! I've used a fleece which is new so hasnt got any soap powders etc on it 2day, the hay seems a little dusty to me so il try to get a different kind tomorrow, my mum does have plug ins around so il take out the ones nearest to their room and when they are downstairs il take the living room one out, there is definately nothing wrong with their apetite, they havn't stopped today! They are also very active in their new C&C :) they love it running up and down the ramp like loons popcorning because its just been cleaned and everything looks good again! :smitten: thanks for the help again, i will try to think what else could be irritating around the house x
