I was out in the run earlier holding Chanel, my long haired pig. She sneezed twice in about 10 minutes. I can't see any snot/ other signs. She is only 4 months. As she is long haired her bum gets wet with her urine so I'm wondering if this could have caused it? Or is it normal for a pig to sneeze just like we do? Thanks.

Pigs sneeze just like we do and probably just as regularly as we do. It's likely to be nothing to worry about, especially as there's no snots involved but I'd just keep an ear out for the the next few days just to be sure.

Thank you! I'm a new piggy owner and don't know what behaviours are normal and what ones aren't.

:lol:Feel free to ask anything at all. I've had piggies for 20 years and I still learn stuff all the time on here!

Welcome to the wonderful world of guinea pigs x

Hello and welcome,

As @Jaycey has said piggies can sneeze just like us but always keep watch so you know when something does not seem right with them.

What I would definitely advise though if her hair is getting wet at her bum is that you need to cut her hair. It is important that you keep it trimmed so that she doesn't get wet as she can get urine burn which is very painful. I also give my long haired sow a bum bath when needed just to keep her clean and fresh. xx

Thanks. I cut the hair around her bum today, and have washed her bum last week but still gets very damp with wee. How often do you wash her bum and what with? Is there any other way to stop this from happening? Thanks

You may just need to cut the hair shorter or is it thick and may need thinning out as well? What bedding is she on? It should absorb most of the pee so that she is not sitting on it. Gorgeous Guineas have amazing products and you can have a look at their website online. xx

I've cut it quite short. Ordered some shampoo from gorgeous guineas on friday. Shes on sawdust and newspaper at the minute but I'm not a big fan of it and I've just read about fleece so I'm going to order some and try that. Might also attempt to litter train them as there young but doubt I'll be successful. Shes so fluffy! Is there any particular shampoo you recommend from georgeous guineas? I got the posh and go.

Thanks for asking this. I was going to ask the same thing! Happened earlier today when the piggies were having their floor time!

Hi, I don't think you can go wrong with any of them but I believe there is a write-up on each one and what it is best used for. xx
