I've just noticed that Smudge our tri-colour guinea pig has a cloudy eye. The other one is fine.

Does this mean she is going blind in that eye? Could a vet do anything for her?

Thank you for any help x

smudge may just have something in that eye, is it red around the edge of the eye? try bathing it in warm salty water and see if that helps O0 a vet could tell you for sure whether smudge is losing her sight or not. O0 you might be worrying about nothing as serious O0 hoping smudge gets better, sending hugs :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

Sorry to hear about Smudge.
Gently have a look in her eye.
Does she have a piece of hay stuck in there? Or a seed of any kind?
Because the eye will react by clouding up if there is a foreign body in there. If there is something, just be tempted just to pull it out ... try to ease it out gently.
But if you are in any doubt, contact a vet.

If you have looked yourself and cant find anything, please take your piggy to the vets as i lost my little tonic through her eye infection which led to it needing to be removed, where I'm afraid she past away.

The eye turns cloudy as a way of repairing itself. You need to get your piggy checked over by your vet, they usually give you some drops to administer which usually do the trick really quickly. On rarer occasions this can be the sign of a cataract, again a vet would be able to confirm this.

Good luck with Smudge (I have a Smudge too)

It's important to get her to a vet. If one eye is cloudy it's usually the sign of an injury. The vet will need to make sure there is nothing stuck (like a hay seed) and you'll probably get some antibiotic drops to speed up healing if this is the case.

Eyes are not something to be treated at home.

Yeah you shoukld take your wee piggy to the vet. It sound like she might have injured it or got an infection. one of my piggies i had a few yea\rs back had one blind eye but i think she had it from birth and she was fine. If she has gone blind in that eye make sure she hears you before you come to her as she could get a fright.Hope she is ok.

If Smudge is anything like Frances He rles the roost of 5 boars!
causes havoc and leads/starts the troubles or escapes!
But get him checked over by a vet thou just to make sure

Aww don't worry
My piggie Mudge had this happen and it went cloudy but i got advice of here and it helped i washed it with warm salty water.
And after a week it cleared up and he is as good as new no i even forgot it ever happend thinking about it.

If it dosn't get better over a week i would take your pig to the vet and see what happens..
Sending healing vibes to smudge

Please don't wait a week to see if it clears up. A friend of mine did this and her piggy's eye was permanently damaged - the vet said if she had taken him straight away it would have been an easy problem to solve.:(

Yes I'm sorry but i have to agree with caviesgalore, dont leave it a week when it can be treated now. It may get worse and become untreatable plus the piggy may be in some pain.
