My young boar Smudge is 4 months old & he's acting like a randy teenager. He has a sister who we've separated from him as he keeps trying to mount her, although he's trying to chew his way though the hutch to get to her. He's suddenly started to pong a bit, is this just the male hormones kicking in or is it a sign of something else.

Possibly... they have a tendency to kind of turn their butts inside out when being territorial or dancing around girls... lovely!

I assume you seperated him from his sister much earlier?

am hoping sister is not pregnant O0 could just be smudge marking his terrority and this is making the smell :o :o :o i would move his sister to another room so he can't smell or see her and this might calm him and his hormones down a little. hugs to your piggies and good luck :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

very much hope you seperated him from his sister at 3 weeks...males and females do create babies you realise! 3 weeks onwards is the time they can create babies.

She might well be pregnant if they've been living together for a few months. Boy pigs do scent if they smell a female close by

I find boars do have a smell about them ... a male hormone aroma, I guess ;)
Neutered boars smell much nicer!

yeah Harley smelt funny when he was entire, but Hamish had a nice smell to him and hes been castrated all the time :smitten:

Lenny was terrible for smelling but once his bits were gone he smelt fine. His hair is really long at his bump so i need to cut it or it starts to turn yellow. x

we only found out he was a boy when he was 11 weeks old as the breeder was sure that he was a girl. his sister doesn't seem to be getting any fatter so I'm hoping with everything crossed that she isn't pregnant, only time will tell. at the moment they are 1 on top of the other in a double hutch & he'll be getting castrated at 6 months as my vet won't do him until then.
