I’ve noticed my 8 month old boar piggie smelling a lot more over the past couple days, the best way I can describe it (sorry for the tmi) is just like a really sweaty behind smell🤢
He’s not changed in his eating or drinking, and his character is the same as normal so I’m not overly concerned about him, I’m more just concerned for my nose…
I’m wondering if this is a possible start to his teenage phase and maybe producing more smells that he didn’t when he was just a baby, as I’ve also noticed his manly bits are much bigger than I’ve ever realised before.
If it persists I’ll just pop him to the vet for a checkup but to save him the stress of being poked and prodded in an unfamiliar environment, I wanted to see if there was any advice before I did. Tia😊

Boars can be smelly!
8 months of age is well into the teens - it starts at 4 months of age, with highest hormone output at 6 months but with with various other spikes along the way.

The thing with teen boars is that the more you clean the cage, the more they will scent mark and the more it will smell. It can be best to only clean half the cage at a time so that it still smells of them and that can cut down on the amount they feel they need to scent mark Clean the other half the next day.

I think your teenager guess could be right but one of the experts will be along soon! They apparently get hormone surges in Spring as well so you might be getting a double dose! Has he started rolling his eyes and complaining yet? 🤣
No eye rolls yet, but turns his nose up at certain, once favourable veg, and stays up past bedtime… do I rename him Kevin?😂

That’s fab thankyou for explaining! I tend to spot clean his favourite wee patches and then do a full clean when necessary, but half cleans make a lot more sense if he’s feeling he needs to mark his territory when the fresh stuff gets put in.
Thanks again:)
