Hi, I was cleaning out my hairless guinea pigs cage and i noticed 2 black beetles or something. They were relatively small. They didn’t seem harmful. i squashed them and threw them away. My guinea pigs don’t seem to have anything on them and they’re eating happily and popcorning. I was just wondering if i should take them to the vet to get checked? Has anyone ever had these before? I researched and thought the closest thing to them were carpet beetles, as i do have carpet. Are those harmful to hairless guinea pigs? I just don’t know what to do and i’m worried.

Hi!

The beetles won't harm your piggies. ;)

*(I messed up the other thread and i’m new to this website so i don’t know how to delete it so I just made a new one! )*

The beetles won't harm your piggies (they will certainly not infest them) and you do not need to see a vet over them. ;)

Thank you so much! I’ve been checking their cage and i don’t see anything. Thank god i squashed those bugs when i did. I do see a goop in one of my piggies eye now. It couldn’t possibly be related to the bugs right? i think i’m just paranoid at this point  do you know anything about it?:(

Guinea pigs have a white cleaning fluid in their eyes which is perfectly normal but there are other issues which can cause eye discharge and they require vet care (sometimes urgent and emergency care when it comes to eyes) as it may be due to something being in the eye such as piece of hay lodged under the eye lid. We cannot guess what may be the cause of it for your piggy though so if you are concerned, please do see a vet

Thank you! We took her to the vet for a check up and they said she was fine! Thank you all for the help! :) <3
