I have just removed a small piece of hay from Mr Pigs eye, it looked like it was a seed? It was sticking out so I gently managed to wipe it away, it doesn't look as if it had been there long, I'm assuming the best thing to do is keep monitoring it and vets if needed?

Yes. Keep an eye on it. If the eye goes cloudy or if they're keeping the eye closed or anything else unusual happens. I would go to the vets for eyedrops and so they can see if theres any damage to the eye or anything else still in there.

Thank you, that's what I thought.

Please keep an eye on it...after one of our piggies had hay in their eye we were suggested by the vet to keep terramycin in which can be bough on amazon and also lubrathal to flush anything out...in general if it happens we use the terramycin 2 times a day for 3 days (morning and evening) and the lubrathal in the afternoon to flush out any dust as it encourages their tear duct to push the little bits if dust out...you may have to wipe their face with warm water though to stop any sticky fur...it has prevented few vet trips for us and the three elder piggies...

Definitely see a vet if you notice any issues with it. Eyes are considered urgent and do always require a hands on vet check to ensure there isn’t anything still stuck in the eye where you cannot see it

Thank you, have had another good look this morning and all seems to be ok, hopefully we found it quickly, it was right at the edge of his eye. I will obviously keep monitoring today and he'll be at the vets if I see anything I don't like. I know eyes are classed as urgent so I'm watching closely.

Hopefully you did...it is always worrying when you see something that isn't meant to be there...do they use dust extracted hay? Its a little more expensive but less small bits...I still shake it out but it has helped our piggies and I find I'm a little less paranoid about hay pokes...
