I have just discovered that my ~6 y/o piggie, Charlie, has some form of "lump" on the right side of his lower chin.
It's firm but small, and I wouldn't have noticed it if I didn't stroke his chin.
Currently no use of trying to take a picture as it's almost invisible due to the fur. Could this be some sort of tumor/abscess? could this be nothing at all? I would've written it off as a normal part of his chin but as he has it mostly on one side, the other sides feels smooth with no bumps which led me to notice.

What could this be? does he need treatment?
Edit: I should mention that he eats and behaves normally

He definitely needs to see a vet for correct diagnosis. Lumps are common but can be any number of things from fatty lumps to tumours or abscesses. There is no way we can tell you over the internet even if we were qualified vets.

I had my 2nd guinea pig, Snoopy, in treatment for a month until a few days ago, where she passed away.
Charlie and snoopy have been together for more than 5 years, and it disheartens me to return to the vet so soon after her passing.
In most cases, is it benign or harmless? just to put my mind at ease somewhat.

I'm sorry for your loss
I'm afraid it’s simply impossible for us to say as we don’t know what the lump is - some lumps are harmless, some need treatment/antibiotics/surgery, some are more serious. Only a vet carrying out a hands on check is going to give you a diagnosis and tell you what course of action is needed.
I hope all goes well at the vet check

Very sorry to hear of your loss. I agree with the advice above. Please have your piggie checked by a vet. Hope all goes well, let us know how you get on

Hugs!

I had a piggie with a lump that turned out to be a dental abscess. She had a history of dental issues and the lump got very large over the course of less than two weeks. Surgery to drain it was successful. Best wishes ✨

Update: just returned from the vet, turns out it was an abscess and we had it drained.
vet gave us antibiotics and painkillers, right now he's warm in a blanket, eagerly eating some parsley (which is a good sign)

That is a good sign & it's so good that you spotted it while it was still small. A smaller problem is easier to solve than a bigger one, isn't it? Healing vibes to Charlie.

Hopefully this will sort it out. I would cut back on the amount of parsley you’re feeding. It’s high in calcium so 1-2 sprigs a week are more than enough. You could try him on coriander. They usually Like it.
