Hi everyone!

I have a 16 week old Abyssinian male named Ollie.

At the centre of one of his rosettes he had what looked like a scab. A couple of days ago the scab fell off of its own accord. He has a small pink patch left. I'm wondering if this is just where the scab was, or if it's something else like mites. He's not scratching excessively and he seems fine in himself. He doesn't have any other bald patches apart from the one I've just mentioned.

My local vets is only doing emergency cases only due to corona and I don't know when they will reopen.

Thanks for any help or advice.

Hi!

If the patch is not growing, I would not worry. You only need to contact your vets with a picture of the patch if there are obvious signs of a fungal or skin parasite problem.
New piggy problems: URI - ringworm - skin parasites

Unfortunately we can't tell you what has caused the scab.

It could be ring worm, I use an anti fungal cream called tolnaftate or any other anti fungal cream, also anti fungal shampoo on every month or so. There’s also something called ivermectin which you just put a small dab on the ear ever two months, it’s to help with lice, mites, and internal parasites

we do not advocate home treating with over the counter medication on this forum. Firstly you may be treating the wrong condition thereby making it worse. Secondly the treatment may be incorrect or of insufficient dosage to be effective, thereby prolonging the condition and suffering for an animal.
If there is a suspected case of ringworm our stance is to recommend a vet visit for diagnosis and correct treatment at the correct dosage.
Finally we do not put ivermectin on sensitive guinea pig ears.
