Hi, so recently I've been finding these massive tiger slugs in the guinea pigs cage at night and its soooo annoying. They leave slime trails everywhere and get into their food bowls. I'm not sure how to get rid of them and am also worried that them leaving slime trails in the piggies food bowls will not be good for their health. HOW CAN I GET RID OF THEM? has anyone les experienced the same problem.

Thank you

I haven't had this problem as my piggies are indoors but here are some suggestions I've seen on the forum in the past.
Copper round the hutch legs.
Hutch stood in gravel patch (sharper gravel the better).
Salt rings on ground round legs of the hutch.
Sure others will be along soon with more suggestions.

Copper tape all round the periphery of the base of the hutch, just make sure the piggies can’t get to it to nibble on :)

When I had this problem with our rabbit hutch I just put a plastic saucer (the type you put underneath a large plant pot) under each leg and filled them with sand.
The slugs won't crawl across the sand (you could also use sharp stones or crushed egg shells) and if the rabbits or other animals should get to them the sand won't harm them.
I agree that slugs in the hutch are nasty - ugh!

I had this problem when my pigs were outside but they were large black slugs- GROSS! We bought a slug trap that you fill with beer and that seemed to help! It may be a bit cruel but at least they didn’t come after the pigs.

i had a few slugs in my hutches in the summer months,i have put copper tape around the doors and it did stop them entering the hutches.i used salt as well !

I have put copper tape around the base of my hutch as it has a run underneath. (Thanks @Tim) That has stopped the slugs except for when the hay spills over and gets trapped underneath making a path for the skugs. So I make sure I brush the hay away every night when they have their veg. No slugs!
