Hi. I’m just looking for some advice. I have picked up a skinny pig last night. He is 1 year old. The person I got him from has not given me much info to go on other than he’s been fed on Guinea pig food and bran 3 times a week. I’ve asked about hay and veg but I’m yet to receive a response.
The problem is he has really sloppy poo and is really underweight, weighing 774g
He is eating and drinking and running around.

Should he go to the vets ASAP or should I wait and see if I can put him on the right diet and see if it’s improving?

Thanks

Yes go to the vet. Any lack of hay and incorrect diet has the potential to cause all kinds of issues so a vet check should be done as a priority (obviously ensure he has plenty of hay now).
I would not give/introduce any veg at this point given his poops are bad.
I would also start to give him a probiotic to help his gut.
Weigh him daily so you know he is eating enough hay. Don’t worry about weigh gain at this point - ensuring he doesn’t have medical issues and starts to get on a good hay based diet and then take it from there.

Are you planning on bonding him with another single boar?
If you are, ensure you quarantine him in a separate room for two weeks before you carry out a bonding.

I hope he is ok. Let us know how you get on

i find skinny pigs weight less than haired pigs, both of mine are around 800grams to 850grams.Congratulations on rehoming this piggie.unfortunatley owners can be econo
mical on the true care given, its a risk.
i would feed just pellets ,lots of hay and water.see if the poops firm up.if it is watery diarrohea ,you need to see a vet as soon as possible.
i wish you all the best.Introduce one veg at a time,to ensure he tolerates it,but only once the poos have firmed up.
Good luck
I agree with all the above.

Hi, just wanted to update you. He is doing really well now. He has put on 100g and is looking great. Introduced veg after poos firmed up and is loving life 🥰 He’s such a character, makes me so sad that some one neglected him like that. Thanks for your help 🙂
