This is my pigs' home - 6ft x 4ft.

You'll see that the bedroom compartment is the section that's boarded up (it measures 60cm in length). The snack shack in front of it is only really big enough for one big to get inside (not that they sleep in there - they sleep in the bedroom compartment which has plenty of room for them). But, I'm getting ready for the arrival of another couple of pigs in the next few weeks and I want to have two bedroom areas just so that they have a choice of sleeping arrangements.

I'm thinking of replacing the snack shack with a wooden house measuring 60cm in legth, to run along the length and in front of the existing boarded up bedroom. This would then be big enough for several pigs, but so as not to cut down on the floor space too much in the overall house, I was thinking of making the flat roof quite low so that I could put a piece of vet bed on top and they could jump up there. Do you think they would make the effort to jump up on the roof and use that area too?

God I love what you've done Charlotte - have you modified a shed or are they indoors - will have to show hubby your pic to plant some ideas :)):))

I've noticed recently four of mine have started to jump onto igloo houses when they're in the runs in the garden and when I took the stairs out of one of the hutches we out an extra level in both the piggies in there were jumping from the base of the hutch into the upper compartment. I think some will do it and some won't but I'm sure once they know there's somewhere else comfy for them to go they'll be up there like a shot.

Great set up. Some of my pigs jump up on things and run up ramps, others don't. You will probably know yourself how adventurous your own are. Love the carrot! xx

Thank you! Yes I have to admit that everytime I look at them pottering about in there I am so happy for them! They do love it. They are always so busy in there. Always busy going somewhere or doing something.

It's a shed which I had lined with stainless steel sheets and then sheets of marine ply for insulation purposes, but also to make it 100% secure and water tight. I also had the door made into a stable door, with an inner stainless steel mesh door so I can open it up, shut it up or just open the top half depending on the weather! There are also several hidden ventilation shafts, all backed with steel mesh too. I have to admit that my dad has an engineering company... hence all the steel mesh etc! Still, it stops me worrying when I know they are safe and secure!

Maybe I will try a low flat roof, perhaps 15cm, which hopefully will be low enough for them to jump on to. Fuzzypeg (ginger neutered boar) used to jump up on the roof of a log cabin when he was a kiddie and use it as a launch pad, but I don't think he's so nimble anymore!

Lovely piggie palace!

It depends really on the pig if they would get up, and their ages.

My older boar never gets on top of his hidies and houses, but the younger one thinks of himself as a bit of a gymnast and loves to sit up high. :)

Hee Hee Hee! Well I've now removed the snack shack and installed a wooden house. I've put a brick next to it for them to use as a stepping stone but so far nobody has ventured up onto the roof rolleyes
