I found my guinea pig (peach) with sleep around her eye (right) and her fur was wet around the eye. Is this normal or could there be an underlying health issue?
This has been happening more and more yet her housemate does not suffer from this.
All help will be appreciated.

have not heard of this, is there any discharge from the nose? is her breathing noisy? have you looked into her eye for like a piece of hay? hoping peach gets better sending hugs and healing vibes :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: and welcome to the forums from me and the girls in oz :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

Guinea Pigs do have a natural milky substance that is produced by the eye so they can clean themselves. Sometimes you will notice it especially on black faced pigs. As Mary said if it is accompanied by noisy breathing or discharge from the noise it could be something more serious.

Hope she is ok and it is nothing serious. :)

I would take peach to the vet just to be on the safe side in cause of infection. I'm suspicious that she might have poked her eye or got something in it as the problem is only effecting her right eye. I would have thought if it was the milky colour liquid she was producing from her eyes it would effect both. If you can't see anything in her eye maybe syringe some water into her eye to see if any pieces of hay become visible and try and remove it.

To be honest Twinkle only had the Milky white substance on one side but I do agree with asking a vets advice to be safe. :)

one of my girls has exactly the same thing. the vet said it might be an allergy to sawdust or hay. he said not to worry as it is normal :)

This may be a blocked tear duct, caused by dust,..,especially if there are no other symptoms .

Put some Optrex ort Brolene eyedrops in the corner of the eye near the nose ,then gently massage along under the lower eye lid.
