Hi all,
I have a 8 month old skinny. It seemed like he had ringworm,. I started using a topical anti fungal cream. The white crusts went away eventually. Now his skin almost looks like he is pealing, from like a sunburn. It looks nothing like ringworm or mites. I'm thinking it could be just dry skin? Is there something I could put on it?
I would hate to take him to the vet, here in Illinois the vets are very expensive for guinea pigs because most consider them exotic pets. But if I have to I will.
Any suggestions or ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Tony

You need to take him in for a check. It’s better not to home treat because you don’t know what exactly is wrong. Using the incorrect meds is also problematic as it can cause a resistance or can sometimes make things worse.

You really should see the vet, we do not recommend home treating. Possibly something in the cream you bought has caused a bad reaction, as these things are not formulated with piggies in mind...
Most skinny pigs have beautiful healthy skin, its a bit of a myth that they frequently get dry skin or need creams or oils- any skin issue should be seen by a vet promptly.
