Skinny pigs outside

Hi, in a few months I’m going to be adopting a few sows to put with my boar.all of my guinea pigs live outdoors in my shed. I would really enjoy having a skinny pig as part of my herd. I’m just wondering if I could keep one outside with some normal guinea pigs!

Is your shed heated?

If not, then my guess is no they couldn’t as they need a very stable temperature year round but I will tag in some members with skinnies @Flutterby @PigglePuggle

No, my sheds not heated but could it work if I where to buy a heater and provide lots of warm items?

See what those with skinnies say. Skinnies are quite different to hairy piggies in general so they may say it’s not appropriate for them to be kept outside in any event.

@HeatherRose is another skinny owner. I’d probably err on the side of caution and say don’t put a skinny pig outside.

You say your piggies all live in a shed. What others do you have aside from the single (lives alone in his cage?) boar?

Personally I would only keep skinnies inside as they are so delicate when it comes to temperature and the easiest way to control it is for them to be inside.

Skinny pigs really do need to be indoors. Ours have their own thermostatically controlled heater for the winter so that their room is never below 18 centigrade.

I would definitely only keep skinny pigs indoors, and even indoors in winter Tallulah starts shivering if there's a draft- all through the winter I make sure the lowest night time room temperature is never below 16 degrees as an absolute minimum, and if it is going to get even that cold she gets a snugglesafe heat pad and a choice of 3 or 4 fleecy tunnels and cuddle sacks and double-thickness enclosed hidey houses- ideally they shouldnt ever get colder than 18 degrees!

I agree, I would keep skinny pigs inside. I let mine out on the grass for a few hours when the weather is nice and keep her shaded from the sun.
