hi all. i recently rescued some skinny pigs, two boar brothers around 18 months old. ive just recently weighed them. one came to about 700 grams and the other 850-900 grams.
I'm not sure why one is so much bigger than the other. ive been trying to fatten them up since they just look SO tiny compared to other pigs ive seen & am giving them a variety of timothy and meadow hay, fresh veg every day and oxbow adult pig pellets. they were initially on harry the hamster guinea pig food (i think thats what it is called) but i moved them off it and introduced them to timothy hay as well. id it normal for one to be so small?

It is quite normal for two piggies to weigh different amounts but weight alone isn’t an indication of what is healthy for the individual piggy. It is their heft which is the important part - piggy BMI. Some piggies are smaller but still healthy.

Ensure you weigh them every week as routine, switching to daily if you have any health concerns.

Their not much smaller than when I got them, if at all. I did think that once I did some diet changes for them, however, that they'd put on some grams, but they still look small.

That may be what is normal for them.
Have you checked their heft?

Skinny pigs can often be more petite than their furry friends, ours has never quite got to a kilo in weight while my furry pigs are mostly 1100 to 1300g.
They do use a lot of calories keeping warm, especially in winter, do you keep their room warm enough (about 20 degrees C, a minimum of 18 even at night) and do they have plenty fleecy tunnels and houses?

I have two skinny pigs, Ginger the boar weighs in at 1.1kg and Dora at around a kilo. It may be that your piggies are at the weight which is right for them but if not they should gain weight if they are being fed the proper amount of food. It is usually more obvious in a skinny pig if they are underweight as they tend to look bony. However, as @PigglePuggle says they do need to be kept warm at all times, the room my skinnies are in never gets below 18 degrees C. If they are not warm enough they will expend all there energy trying to maintain their body temperature.

I've two skinny pig sisters, one weights one kg,one weights 740 mgs and both are healthy weights.i agree you need to keep there room warm.

Since their rescues, I haven't quite got their ideal housing down yet. They currently have two fleece hides, but looking at getting more, and mixed paper & hay bedding in different sections. They are kept right next to a radiator & when thats off I have a heat lamp on the one side of the cage. I'm also looking for those microwavable pads for small pets.

The room is warm (sometimes too warm honestly) but they are boars so I think they should weigh more than female skinny pigs.
