Ive had to have two of my three guinea pigs to the vet about every 2 weeks since I've had them due to hem having dry skin and hair loss.
We've had creams, been treated for mites and ringworm and it still hasn't fully resolved. So when I took them back this time, the vet suggested skin scrapings which were done. Today I found a small red mark on one of their backs. I just wondered if anyone else had any experience of skin scrapings? Is this a normal thing or possibly something else?

Thank you!

Hi and welcome to the Forum.
Was the red mark from the area where the skin scraping was taken?
And have they been treated for anything so far?

My male seemed quite itchy for a while, and although the tests didn't show any parasites the vet decided to treat him with Ivermectin for mites anyway.
This helped a lot, and it looks like he did have mites, despite not showing any obvious signs of them.

Did the skin scrapings show anything?
I would guess it might be normal for an area where a sample of skin has been taken to be slightly red, but I am sure others with more experience will be along with their suggestions soon.

One of mine had a skin scrape a few years ago and it did leave a red patch. What treatment was used for Ringworm?

I've treated them from just about every skin condition it could be. The scrapings showed nothing, and I had treated for mites twice before the scraping were taken, the last time on Boxing Day.
I wasn't there when the scraping was taken, they were all done in the back as they also sent hair samples off for analysis as well, so I should hopefully have some answers in 2 weeks!

Yeah, I've had topical treatment for ringworm and a 2 week course of oral medicine to treat it as well. Overall, I've spent £300 five or take on getting them sorted!
I just wanted to make sure it wasn't a bite as I've never seen on before, would I definitely be able to tell if it was a bite? There's no fresh blood, just a little red mark!

You would probably see puncture marks with a bite?

No puncture marks, it looks very like a graze! Sorry, I don't quite know a lot about fights or skin!
