Hi,
Any idea what this may be? I can feel small lumps under the skin and there is a bare patch.
We got him from a rescue and he was absolutely fine then this appeared out of nowhere within couple of weeks, we weren't sure if it was maybe a reaction to the laundry detergent as they're on fleece so changed to another type, it's been a good few weeks now and it's not worse I also can't see that it's really any better, will attach pic from when it started, i think a trip to the vet is in order but just wondered if anyone had any idea what it could be? Definitely doesn't seem to be any kind of mites/parasites as only in this one location and all other piggies are absolutely fine (he's nutered and shares a cage with 4 girls)
He seemed very happy in himself and not in any noticable pain, he's actually probably the most chilled out piggy ever and super friendly.
Thanks in advance
Freya

Thanks, I have requested a vets appointment so should get one soon, just wondered if anyone had seen anything like this before

It's still possible it could be a small outbreak of mites. Many piggies carry them without any signs/symptoms as their immune system keeps them in check but stress due to a change of home and meeting new piggies can compromise this balance. Even though he's a chilled piggy and happy in his new environment some initial stress would have been unavoidable. Just a possibility. I'm sure your vet will be able to identify the cause.

Thanks, that's interesting, I would have thought mites would affect them all over. Although I know they were treated for mites as a precaution anyway at the rescue and again right before we took then home so I would hope that would be enough to keep them at bay.
Hopefully we'll get an appointment next week and we can find out for sure.
I'd actually prefer it was mites in a way as I've now been thinking tumors, cysts etc which is scary for him, poor piggy
