My dad bless him built my piggies hutch, but i think it is a little on the small side, especially when they get bigger.
Being a bit on the soft side i cant bring myself to let them stay out side, they go out in the day but i bring them in at night.
Although cleaned out regulaly i think an indoor cage wont be as whiffy.

What i would like to know is for two guinea pigs what is a decent size for an indoor cage? They come out regulaly, in a run and have free run of living room in the evening, but i dont want them to be crampt in their cage.
I dont want to buy one that i think is a good size only to find that once they are in it they could do with a bit more room.
What do you recon

You are right to make sure your boys have plenty of space.

A Nero 4 is said to be good, or if you can source the grids and the correx, cages based on those at www.guineapigcages.com are very flexible and can be built to suit.

Its about 35 inches by 18 inches.
He has made it lovely and you would think it has been bought.
personally i think its small

A hutch or cage should be 4' x 2' for a pair of piggies... ideally.

As Laura said, a Nero 4 is a great indoor cage and lots of room on one level.

Perhaps you could use your dad's hutch in the outdoor run, so as not to upset him?

It sure is 48 inches by 24 inches :)

I think both the hutch and run have been made with love & look lovely however, i agree with you that the hutch is too small for 2 piggies full-time.

Could you explain to him that whilst you love it, it's a little small for them & would he be able to extend it? :)

he may be able to put another part on top and to make opening with ramp going down to that section have bedroom upstairs like one i have got . we made ours ones in p@h not very good . that a good sturdy one dont upset him he was doing his best

It does look too small unfortunately. It is well made, he did a good job, it's just the size that is a problem. Might be okay while the boys are very small, but you will definitely need them in something a lot bigger by the time they reach 4 months or so.

we are going on about size but i have seen cages people keep in there houses and they are smaller than that i can not see the problem as long as they get out every day thats why i wonder if he could make opening at bottom and add run so they can go up and down when ever they want put mesh around bottom of legs add on to front and put sliding door on opening to close at night

Thanks every one for your replies, your right i dont want to hurt his feelings, and to be honest i dont think i can afford to buy an indoor cage and another hutch. The idea of extending it is a good one.infact i shall speak to him about it tomorrowCheers ladiesClaire x

Its a lovely hutch made with love:) and can be extended we did ours. All we did was take off a side one on the left of yours away from the bedroom and build the same size again attached. Ours looks like we glued two hutches together:)). We put wooden cladding all the way across the back of it which gave it a nice lookining finish.

Our chap lives in and NIC setup (C&C Setup) and it is 3ft x 7ft with no levels :D He has 3 girlfriends arriving in a month once he's recovered from his neuter so will probably be doubled to 5ft x 7ft :D
