Sorry if this is in the wrong forum, but due to the recent death of one of my girls, I now have 1 little girl to look after.
Maisie is 6 & has been on her own for about 1 year. I say on her own......as she didn't get on with her cousin Izzy, we couldn't let them share the same hutch, but my husband put in a wire divide in the bedroom area, so they could see, smell & nose touch each other & sleep almost together every night. This was the same with the downstairs part where they could graze.
Izzy passed away on tues & I am unsure of what to do. Maisie hasn't changed, she still has a cuddle etc & eating as well as normal. However as its cold I moved her into her large shed where she is now all alone. I see her as much as I can, but can't help feeling she is sad. I do not want to have a knee jerk reaction & simply replace Izzy as 6 years of Maisie has given me a good idea of her character & she wouldn't thank me! My only other choice is to buy an indoor pen. Problems I have initially are 2 indoor cats in a small bungalow. I could however place her in the bathroom! If this is the right thing to do, would it stress her out more with strange noises & warmer conditions?
I would value opinions. My husband thinks its me feeling guilty rather than Maisie feeling lonely!

I do not think a bathroom would be suitable as the steam would make her hay damp. I would bring her inside though as she will be lonely. Is it not possible to put her in your front room or bedroom? I have a studio flat so my gang are with me. It is lovely living with your piggies and you will be able to give her a lot more attention too.

Good point with the steam etc. trouble I have our my 2 indoor cats. They are now 3 & have access to all the bungalow so suddenly banning tem from a room wouldn't be fair. Keeping Maisie in the lounge wold be ok if I was home all dy but work prevents that. I doubt there are cat proof cages? If you know of any GeV me a link as I would love o cuddle my girl

There is a cage called Ferplast 140 which you can buy a stand for. I used to have that. I am not sure if your cats would climb up it though?

Here it is

I think that the Ferplast would be cat-proof even without the stand, if you additionally secured the lid somehow - you could maybe even just weight it down? I do think that she'd be happier in the house with you. :)

my first thought was to bring her in. my worry would be if she isn't used to being around the cats then she might be scared all the time.

i know you said the bungalow is small but would it be possible for her to be in the bedroom but when you're at work, keep the cats out of there so she can have some time away from them. then you can see how she reacts to them when you're at home? then go from there.

if you are planning to get her a friend eventually and she seems happy enough, maybe she could stay where she is for now then when she has a new friend they can keep each other company in the shed?

Many thanks for the replies. I have decided to bring her in for cuddles etc. heaven know what my cats will think but hey she will be safe I am sure. Have spoken to the pet man today & he said to go back on Friday for a cage. Will let you know what she thinks of it all at a later date!

I have 3 house cats and 2 guinea pigs and have had no problem with them at all. The guinea pigs are not fussed by the cats. The cats are not interested in the guinea pigs even when they are out in their pen in the kitchen. The cats food bowls and litter trays are all in the back hall.

I have two indoor cats and two indoor piggies. The cats pretty much ignore the piggies but they have on occassion touched noses through the cage bars in a friendly fashion. I might just have really good cats though as they also ignore my cages of mice and hamsters :)
