Hi

I'm planning to treat my girlies to a new bigger hutch, I've always had problems with double tier hutches and only once managed to get piggies to use the ramp but I know other people seem to have no problems.

Is it me? Or do most people have problems? Wondered if anyone had any advice re which to choose :)

Thanks

Of course there are people with problems getting piggies up the ramps, particularly piggies who are elderly need much motivation to get up a ramp! Or simply not even try.

I would personally go for one tier, providing the floor space is large.

We have moved our pigs to a c and c cage, but they started off in a two tier hutch in the kitchen! They never got as far as being outdoor pigs. I had to add some extra small strips of wood to the ramp as those supplied were too far apart for guinea pigs. They had no trouble getting up and down once I had done that.

I had a tier cage and then decided to move on to a 3 tier. My pigs took ages learning to go up and down ramps and at the end I nearly gave up and then they started. It will take them a while put I personally thin it is worth. Just show them how to go up and down and you could also put veggie or their favourite treats on the ramps. Just don't give up, they will surprise you. Hope this helps.

If you can afford the space for a good sized single tier then i'd say single, so there are no hiccups with ramp issues :)

Thanks, I just can't decide. I really like the idea of two tiers, but don't want to end up with a hutch they only use half of! Choosing between 4X2 double story or 6x2 single.

Single in those sizes, as the general rule is you can't count any 'floors' due to possible restricted use.
