Hiya, so I know it's not great to have a single guinea pig but due to unfortunate circumstances one of my guinea pigs is permanently separated - and I know a lot of other people have this issue. I'm working on getting him a friend but until then I heard that little cuddy toys can help them feel less lonely.

I got my little guy a small dog toy for him to chew and cuddle as he loves doing both and he seems a lot happier! He's only had it for a few days but it's made him cry less when I'm away from him. My friend has done this too with her grieving sow and it's worked wonders for both of our piggies. I just thought I'd share in case anyone else has lonely guinea pigs.

Has anyone else done this?

It is one of the tips in our single guinea pigs guide; how successful it is depends very much on the piggy's personality and outlook, though.
If you have other guinea pigs, then please place the cage next to them (a single boar can also live next to sows).

Ah I didn't know it was a tip already on here 😅 he is next to the others' cage so that he isn't too lonely, we're waiting on rescues to respond to us so he can get a friend but rn he loves his toy! Unfortunately my area isn't great for rescues as there's only a few in Hampshire but we're slowly getting there. Otherwise it'll be neutering and getting a sow from anywhere we can at this point 😂

The guide is not about lectures but about helping owners in a wide range of situations help their piggies as best as they can. ;)

Wheek and Squeak are by far the best and are the only one in the area that we can guarantee for.
Summer holidays are always one of the most difficult times to find a new friend, apart from the Christmas holidays. :(

Yep I spoke to them and they recommended another as they had no unbonded boars, spoke to the other and it was the same issue unfortunately

I am very sorry; there is usually an influx of unwanted piggies in the Autumn and quite a number of boars available for dating by September-November once the summer lot has lost their novelty value and the boys hit the teenage months... :(

But it is great that he has a little snuggle friend! Boars are usually keener on them than sows.

Ah okay I'll be looking out for that then! Yea the beginning of the teenage months were when my boys had the problems - I could never let my little guy go though ❤️
