My hubby and I were in the kitchen this morning and we heard this bird noise from the lounge went in to investigate and it was my girl Buffy singing! It was amazing just like a bird but it was very eerie, my other pigs had all ran for cover except one who was frozen to the spot! She sang for a few minutes and gave me goose bumps! Poor Charlie who was frozen was very still for a long time after and I started to get worried about him as he wouldn't move, I opened the cage and stroked him and he still didn't move, I left him alone for another 5 mins and then he was fine. I didn't see the rest of my pigs before I left for work. I know they are all fine because I checked them as soon as I came downstairs before Buffy's singing.

It was a very strange feeling to witness it not sure how I feel! Just worried that something might be wrong as they have never sang before.

singing piggy

our late rosie started to sing when she was around 6, we thought it was the cockateils. it is a very beautiful sound though as you said eerie too. not many people get to hear that sound so you are very lucky to hear it!
some piggies will sing cause they are missing a friend, or they are happy, or some say inpending death (rosie passed 3 months afterwards). no one has found out why the sing!
sorry i shouldn't laugh (sticks in laughing icon) but poor charlie frozen like that the poor little mite, maybe charlie and the others were scared or surprised to hear the sound of buffy singing. cause maybe she was coming to kill them sorry weak joke.
but seriously, no one knows why a piggy sings, and on a guess i would say it is one in 50 guinea pig owners who hear their piggies sing. so treasure the sound, we taped rosie's i think buffy is doing it cause she is happy! hugs coming your way and especially too poor charlie the darling XXXXX

Nobody knows why they do it. Some say it is a song to gather all of the pigs together. I have heard it once when Cuzzy passed over to Rainbow Bridge and Twinkle started singing. It was lovely. Sunshine ran off like the big girl he is!

It's nothing to worry about just something they do. :)

twinkle

now louise that wasn't very nice calling sunshine a girl! he is adorable and he is a man's man! a piggie bouncer he is, he is the rocky of piggies!
it is a beautiful sound though isn't it though eerie too!
now young lady you go out to sunshine and apologise and give him a big piece of cucumber!
go on off you go! give him a kiss and cuddle from me too XXXXX

Nothing has changed with my pigs and they have all been getting on fine. I was singing along with the radio in the kitchen, maybe that was it!! lol

Perhaps she thought *** what an awful noise I can do better than that! ;)

I am a bit worried about when I get home, hope I don't find anything horrible!

aw how lovely, i have never heard a piggy do that. what exactly is it like?

Haha Mary! He is a lucky pig as he and Radley have been brought in. They now live in the living room in a 4x2 cage. Once I got the bigger cage in for Tika the last cage wouldn't fit in the barn! Tika is now zooming around the garden she comes in the living room if it rains she is so clever! :D

Is it only sows that sing? I can't imagine any of our boys singing... especially Boomer!

I can't imagine Boomer doing it either Marty...lol Nope Twinkle is a boy and he done it. :)

I really did think a bird was in our lounge, i think its similar to a canary sound, like a chirping. It was amazing to witness it, I've still got goose bumps again just thinking about it! I feel very privileged, she did look very beautifil while singing.

I really hope it doesn't mean something horrible is going to happen! :(

I can't imagine Boomer doing it either Marty...lol Nope Twinkle is a boy and he done it. :)

Although saying that, if it would get him more attention then perhaps he may do so :D He's got in to the habit now of pushing behind his hay rack and then letting it bang against the correx tub to attract attention when it gets low or empty! He does like to be the centre of attention, he's almost out-wheeking Dylan at feeding time now.

Aww thats fantastic! He was so quiet when he came nice to know he has come out of his shell. :)

Everyone was fine, when I got home last night, just very quiet! No one squeaked when I walked in or for their dinner! But very noise this morning for their breakfast! :))

Yeahhh I have smilies! :(|)

I've heard that song for around 5 minutes one morning, too. Patchy was singing nicely and all the other piggies just stopped in their tracks and waitend until she was finished.
It's a beautiful song and I wish we would know why they are singing it. Very special!
