Do guinea pigs ever nibble to be friendly?

Ha, okey dokes... obviously not such a simple question.

I don't mean biting just a nibbly nibble ;)

I think they do. Merry nibbles gently when he is trying to groom us or giving us kisses. It's just gentle. Merry's a very licky pig and loves to lick fingers, faces and ears sometimes with a friendly gentle nibble thrown in but he never really gives you a good munch unless he's ill or scared or really upset. Even then he just tends to run and hide.

Baby Suilven nibbles a lot but I think that's cos he's a youngster and is still testing everything out. He's not got the hang of kisses yet but Merry is trying to teach him. He grooms Merry a lot without nibbling and even when he nibbles us it's very gentle and he's just testing everything to see if it's food.

To be honest most of my previous piggles didn't nibble much at all but these two are super affectionate and like lots of contact.

Hope that helps...

Thank you for your reply - that's very interesting.

I'm just in a quandry because both my boyz have a little nibble but it's so gentle and often combined with licking and cuddling, I wasn't sure how to react.

If I say "no" they stop immediately - but I don't want to tell them off if they are trying to be affectionate.

It's very gentle and doesn't hurt at all... a part of me thinks if they were biting to hurt, then hurt they would!

Thanx

My eldest pig Neville grooms me, i thought it was affectionate so i let him, but only till i cant bare his whiskers tickling me! I would let them as long as its soft :)
