Today I found 2 Silverfish while cleaning my guinea pigs cage and I'm not sure if they pose a threat. I know if you see a maggot in your guinea pigs cage you need to bring them to the vet do I have to do so? Are they harmful to piggies?

Hi,silverfish are not harmful to your piggies, do you have cloth liners in their cage, as this is what they live off.

I agree with teddymouse silverfish aren’t harmful …..they are food for spiders and like old houses 😂

Oh yes I have fleece bedding, should I change that? I do have some left over bedding but that's paper and I know Silverfish like paper aswell.
Edit: lol I realized my liners are made out of fleece and not cotton so I should be good hopefully

Do you have F10? It's a vet grade disinfectant.. Hoover your cage out, and spray with F10. Do this every week until no more silverfish are seen. Their eggs are very tiny. F10 should kill the eggs. I know it's a different species but years ago I had an earwig invasion in the hutch which took me around 6 weeks to get rid off and this was the only way I managed to eradicate them.

Here is the link for F10. It seems expensive but it's a concentrate that you water down and lasts ages.

Thank you very much! I'm hoping it isn't an infestation, I pulled the cage apart and didn't see any more but assuming there is more since there was 2. Thanks for everyone's help!
