I’m just wondering what the signs are that a guinea pig has arthritis particularly in the back? Edward is still biting me when I pick him up :( His skin is nice and healthy so I don’t think he has mites plus he isn’t biting and scratching at himself

An x-ray will bring clarity. Because arthritis can affected the whole skeleton or any part of it and is usually a gradual process, there are no sure-fire symptoms. I would strongly recommend not to fixate on a particular issue. This would need a careful vet examination and may - if at all - yield very different results than you anticipate. The symptom is far too vague as it is.

Meg's spinal arthritis was diagnosed by Kim at C&R. I had no idea she had it at all until Kim told me she was suffering from it. I wasn't surprised as Christian (RIP) had it too.

Thank you everyone. Apart from biting me when I pick him up, he’s showing no other symptoms. He’s lost a bit of weight but my vet couldn’t find anything wrong when she examined him. I think I’ll just keep an eye on him and mention it when I next take him to the vets in July
