Hi, My Guinea Pig has a lump on his back that I have been told by a vet is a growth, the vet said 2 weeks ago that he recommend we have it removed but there was no rush. My guinea has been biting it since yesterday and there is now an open wound which he won't stop biting. I am going to take him to the vet tomorrow but is there anything I can do to cover the wound today?
Please help if you can?

It's quite hard to cover a wound on a piggie. You could try making an Elizabethan collar out of card so he can't reach it (like you see dogs and cats with to stop them being able to reach a wound. Or you could try a body bandage if you have any bandages around - you wrap the bandage aroung the tummy a few times (to cover the wound and then over one shoulder, a few more wraps around the tummy and then under the opposite shoulder and repeat. You need to do it quite tight, but as long as there is a 'V' of bandage across the chest it will be fine.

Go with the bandage if you can and try and keep him occupied with plenty of hay so as to distract him a bit. Is the wound clean? If you are concerned about it being dirty some salt water to clean it worked a treat when one of mine had a wound on their neck. I'm sure you will be get him to the vet as soon as you can. I do hope he's ok, let us know how he gets on.

I can't see any dirt inside but as its bleeding I will clean it before I put the bandage on, hopefully it will stay on. I just feel really sorry for him. Thank you I will give an update tomorrow, I hope the vet can sort it.
