Shredded wood material from hamper

We've receieved a lovely hamper at work and it was all padded out with the usual 'shredded wood' material and my colleagues have saved it for my piggies! Just wondering if anyone know if it would be safe for them? Thought they might like to burrow in it

It doesn't seem to have any oil in it, and isn't scented.

I know guinea pigs shouldn't have any softwood shavings: one of our girls even had asthma attacks every time she was on pine. I'm sure you wouldn't know what type these are I guess you could smell it if you know what pine smells like And their bedding shouldn't be too rough as any scratch or irritated patch can get infected. Sorry to scare you, but it's better to be safe than sorry, we were sorry a couple of times and it's important that everyone knows.

I decided not to give them it - I popped a handful in earlier and they weren't very interested anyway! They are bedded on towels and fleece with a newspaper and hay area, so they aren't missing out! Just seemed a waste to throw it away.
