I'm doing some DIY improvements to the pigs enclosure tomorrow. I'm going to line both cages with a shower curtain, cut to shape and size.

1 is this a good material to use?
2 do you think the pigs would nibble it? It would have newspaper and then fleece over the top?
3 do you use a shower curtain for the underlayer?

1. It should be a good material to use when teamed with an absorbent layer.
2. If your pigs are like mine they will try to nibble anything!
3. I would use the shower curtain as the under layer.

Shower curtain, newspaper, then fleece would be the appropriate layering. I have used plastic tablecloths in the same manner as you want to use the shower curtain. I have no experience with newspaper though & am not sure how absorbent it is. I have always used towelling for the middle layer. One of my pigs will chew plastic, but the other won't. Your piggies may or may not be plastic chewers. But if they can't get at the shower curtain, shouldn't be a problem. Some members weigh down the fleece or peg it to the bars to prevent burrowing.

I'm going to secure the fleece so that they have no access to the shower curtain itself.

Time to go to tesco and get strange looks for buying 3 shower curtain packs :)

Know the feeling. One time at the greengrocer's bought 2 heads of cos lettuce & 2 heads of redoak lettuce at the same time. The checkout girl lifted her eyebrows & said "someone sure likes salad". I said "yes, my guinea pigs". It did take her aback.

Just like when I buy a single sprout !

Can't help it if the hoomans in our household don't like sprouts - and I don't like to waste.

I got some weird looks in tesco.

I bought:.
3 white shower curtains
2 fleece blankets
Peppers
A tinfoil blanket
A cat litter tray
A roasting tin.

All for the pigs. Thank god for self service!

I always go to sainsburys for my boys greens( no I'm not posh) it's the best place for all different lettuces my local telcos doesn't have the variety and believe it or not sainsburys is cheaper for it. They no me well now and do comment and say you've forgot the boys cucumbers! I have to run back and get them:doh: X

i have a great market stall that supplies restaurants so they have all sorts of different lettuce and herbs etc.I even get stuff cheaper sometimes if its the last bit. They are cheap as well. Also have a tesco that sells stuff off cheap at teatime ish so my piggies are spoilt.I have shower curtain then incontinence pads then fleece in my c&c cages and works great

My correx base is looking a right mess these days, but it is like 3 years old, and i was trying to think of ways to clean/cover it up and i actually deampt that i used a white shower curtain to cover it and it looked as good as new! But..... my pigs are chewers and i am not sure how i would secure it? I would want to comepletely cover the inside and sides and inside and out, I wonder if stapling would be dangerous?

I would use my usual layer of newspaper then shavings.

Are the incontinence pads better than puppy pads? X

they have no scent to them. Some puppy pads have something on them to attract puppies to pea on them and some people have said their piggies deliberately dig to get to them. You can buy washable incontinence pads as well which would obviously save money. Mine are more or less litter trained so only have to change the odd one now and then which is easier for me.

The roasting tin is for them to play in with hay and I'm hoping they will use it as a toilet. ..who knows though aha. Its the perfect size and shallow for them to hop in and out of...

Thank you I've never even tried to litter train my piggies, didn't think you could like rabbits . Anyway my boys don't dig in the puppy pads so I have no probs there. Might just stick to what I know :)) Xx

I used a shower curtain, pup pads and then fleece when I got my first ever piggies ... it worked but I didnt like having no sides to contain mess within my cag.e
